Juanita Hernandez is the founder and Chief Executive Officer that brings over a decade of professional experience working directly in a foster care placement supporting children in care and working side-by-side with Department of Child Services (DCS), and Tribal Social Services. This unique background provided a front-row seat to the emotional and practical challenges children face when entering the system—especially during emergency placements.

Through this experience, we witnessed a heartbreaking gap: children entering care often arrive with little to nothing of their own. Many receive items that are worn, impersonal, or don’t reflect their age or identity. Afresh New Start Foundation was born from a desire to change that—to deliver dignity, comfort, and a sense of belonging to every foster child, starting from day one.

Our leadership is also strengthened by board members with professional experience in social services, whom have worked extensively with foster youth in various care systems. Their expertise in child welfare, trauma-informed care, and program development informs every aspect of what we do.
